Living the green life requires a little more than wearing eco-friendly clothing, buying green cleaning products or getting your renewable energy through places like Texas electricity providers – you also have to eat green, too. Whatever arguments you can drum up against the thought of changing your diet to organic fall short when compared to the exponential benefits of an organic diet – benefits not just for you but the environment as well. And don’t go thinking that going organic means you have to give up meat.

When applied to meat, organic usually means a number of things but the most common aspect is the humane treatment of these living creatures before they are butchered. It might sound like propaganda, but organic meat harvested from creatures treated humanely is often healthier and free from whatever drugs or hormones that are fed to the creature. The same applies to organic fruits and vegetables too. When you take pesticides out of the equation you get healthier and fresher produce and that’s better for everyone.

And while the biggest argument against organic food might be the overall cost, you have to make a choice – do you pay a little more up front for healthier food or do you pay a lot later when your health finally catches up with you?

If you are looking for a way to preserve your fruits and veggies from your summer harvest you need to think about canning them for the winter. When you grow your own fruits and veggies you not only save yourself money but you also save all of the chemicals that are put into foods in supermarkets today. Growing your own food is the best option if you have the ability to do it. When you grown your own food you give yourself many of the healthy benefits of organic eating.

Eating organic fruits and veggies is a great way to begin a healthy lifestyle and save yourself time and money over shopping at grocery stores during the winter.

For years we simply went along not questioning what was in our food, or how it was produced. This is because we simply had faith that there was someone overseeing this production that had our best interest at heart. In recent years, we are finding out that this might not be the case.

Certified organic foods are free from chemicals, hormones, pesticides, and other things that can do harm to our bodies. There are so many health problems that have been linked to ingestion of these things, that it is hard to imagine why anyone would not choose organic.

Though organic foods cost more than other options for the time being, as they become more mainstream, the cost will likely go down. This downward trend is already occurring, as more people are realizing that organic foods are simply the better choice. Not only are they healthier, but they taste better.

Achieving better health requires exercise, proper diet, and avoiding products that can harm us. Making the decision to choose organic foods should be an easy one, as they provide the nutrition we need, without the ugly extras. Chemical free foods are what you want for yourself, and is certainly what you want for your family.

Community Supported Agriculture has become very popular in providing consumers with local home grown food directly from farmers. A CSA is beneficial to both the consumers and the farmers and helps everyone to support local small businesses. Creating your own CSA is rather easy. The first thing you need to do is contact some local farms and find out what types of products they can offer your group. Decide if you will be dealing with just fruits and vegetables or if you want fresh meats too. Once you have decided the basics it is time to draw up a contract with the products and prices on it and distribute to the members of your group interested in participating. Advertise your new group by handing out fliers and speaking with people at local farmers markets or even in the grocery stores. Designate a location and time where you will be distributing the food to everyone and collecting the money. You can do it weekly or monthly it all depends on what the members of your group want. Keep a good relationship with the farmers you use and make sure they update you on the newest crop selection they have available so you can inform your group.

If you-re an organic gardener, you may find yourself overrun by bugs eating your plants. You don-t want to use harmful chemicals to keep them away. Don-t worry; there are plenty of natural methods of pest control.

For instance, you can stop slugs in your garden by putting out a small can and filling it with beer. Sounds silly, but slugs are actually attracted to the beer. They-ll climb in the can to get to it, but get so tipsy that they won-t be able to climb out.

There are plants that act as natural bug deterrents as well. Mint, lemongrass, basil, garlic, onions, parsley and more are all natural bug repellents.

There are also many items you can buy that you may not have ever thought of as a bug repellent. Cinnamon can be placed around plants to stop ants in their tracks. Salt can be used to cut down on weeds so bugs won-t be attracted to them. Boiling rhubarb and using the leftover liquid on your plants also deters bugs.

There are many other creative and organic ways to keep the harmful bugs away while still keeping the beneficial bugs with you to keep your garden healthy. The information doesn-t stop now.
